455stroker oil pans...

Just curious, if you build a 455 stroker do you need a specific oil pan that allows clearance for the connecting rods?

Any recommendations for one that clears the front crossmember on a 1968 442 convertible?

Thanks!

i'd assume a 7 quart pan will have the clearance. 455 stroker is a 7.5L engine.

7Qt pan will work fine. A stroker 455 (496 or so) is an 8 liter, not 7.5.

I've seen some 496's run with the factory oil pan,and have had no issues to date.the deep sump aftermarket pans are a plus though.Do you need a custom, fabricated pan?NO.

Thanks guys.
Brian do you know of a deep sump pan that will clear the crossmember on a 68 442 convertible?

Any of the aftermarket stuff should work fine.

Steve, I'll tell you this...if the '68 frame is the same as a '72 you may want to stick to a 7qt pan because the 8qt pans stick about 1/2-1" below the crossmember. I have an 8qt on my silver car and have to be careful with railroad tracks, etc. so as not to smack it on the ground. In fact if you look at the burnout pic in my signature you can see it sticking below the crossmember.

Also, I have used the oil pump pickups from both Moroso and Milodon and have found that they are not very well made. The last pickup I got was soldered, not welded. I got one from Andy Miller at www.oldsperformanceproducts.com and it was very nice. I don't know if he actually makes them or not but they are high quality.

Yes,any Moroso or Milodon pan will work, but the 8qt does have a deeper sump.I have that one,but I have not hit anything with it.My headers are just as low,if not lower,so it's not down there by itself. What ever pump & pickup you get, make sure the pickup is a bolt-on,or welded on.The press-in style "could" come loose & come out.
