455 identification?

I was just wondering if there is any way to figure out if my 455 if was the optioned W-33 or possibly a super rocket 455. The only thing I know about it is it came out of a 68 delta 88 and it is now in a 80 cutlass, So looking the VIN up is out of the question, Do I just look the engine block number up? Or am I screwed?

The VIN derivative stamp stamp will tell you what year is it. The W33 technically was '70 only option with that id, but essentially the 390 hp 455 was the same '69-'70, I believe.
Not sure what you mean by "super rocket" 455.

There is no stamp or casting number that would indicate that the engine is from a W-33 or other optional configuration. As Kurt noted, all you can tell is the year and assembly plant from the VIN derivative.

Eh, that sucks. Oh well thought I would try it. But I figured I wouldn't be able to find it out. Thanks anyway though

If you tear it down to the point you can get a look at the end of the cam (for id), you could tell, but I presume you wouldn't want to take it that far.

I thought of that, but if it's not original then that would just be a waste of time.
