455 exhaust
I'm working on my exhaust.
Making in of stainless with the new Thrust hush mufflers.
I finished the duals till the muffler.
but are constant thinking if i should make a H pipe or not.
I build my 69" delta 88 as a low end torque monster not a rev master.
In this setup (thinking low comp pistons) performer intake, edelbrock 750 carb, hei, and the full size manifolds, it easely smoke's the tire's.
(I think it needs a bigger carb, the pump on the carb is set max)
I thought someone told me not to put a X or H on a 455, but am not sure.
And could'nt vind the thread.
So why to use or not use those X or H or streight to the back type of exhaust.

I not going to use a X or H pipe yet.
gonna finisch my tailpipes with is a lot of work do.
gonna trie it as is, and if it give's me to much resonate noice i can alway's change it.
second,
how many with a edelbrock 750 changed the setup of the carb on a 455,
reason, it hasatates a bit and the pump is set on full stroke, before the primary and secondary kicks in.
and i do have the 750cfm manual chocke " for performance " carb

Sorry, missed your post yesterday.
I've only heard good things about the H or X pipe setups.
I'm not real familiar with Edlebrock carbs, but if you were able to change it back I'm partial to the quadrajet on these cars. If you bought one with a good rebuild I think you'd be happy with the performance.
But that's my 2 cents. At the least, this will bring your post back to the top hopefully for more comments! John

I really don't know what difference an X pipe will make from an H pipe but I would use one for sure. When I first put the duals on my Cutlass years ago, I did not use an H pipe. It had an irritating roar. I took it back and they put the H pipe in and the roar was gone.

that is the reason why i asked.
i'm not intending to make a race engine, so it hase to have a nice sound and not that loud.
Gonna finisch the tailpipes and if the roar noice not goes away, gonna make me a H pipe to.
The only spot i have is right behind the transmission frame .

From friend of mine ,into his v8`s ,staying here a while .
Done properly
1.dissipates noise
2. scavenges to broaden the torque curve
He also claims , have the x further towards the rear of the vehicle if possible and DEFINITELY an X over an H

The X patern is quiet difficult to mount on a fullsize 69 delta 88.
The nicest spot i have, is right behind the chassis/bar suporting the transmision.
and a H would not intevere with the drivline becouse of the transmision tail is a few inch over the transmisionbar.
all those posts on the internet about the H and X are confusing,
but gonna finisch the tail pipe's and trie it again.

I always heard that an "H" pipe set-up about 18" back from the collectors gave you better low end torque. I had a stainless system installed on my Corvette by a guy who does really good custom work in Shreveport, Louisiana. He installed the "H" pipe, as I asked, and he also said that it's common knowledge. And it sounds like you have a good spot to install that "H" pipe. Good Luck. I'm sure it'll work just fine.
