I thought I had an Accel distributor until I boutght a replacment cap and it was dwarfed by what is on my car.

Anyone recognize this monster, i really cant make out any number on the actual distibutor.

That looks like a homemade HEI with external coil to me. I think someone smarter than me will chime in soon

 

Saying "Accel distributor" is like saying "Holley carb". There are lots of different sizes and you need to be specific. In fact, Accel sells tan distributor caps that fit stock HEI distributors. They also sell whole HEI style distributors in addition to small body units.

Since you've only shown us a picture of the cap, we have no idea what distributor you have. The cap in the picture is an HEI cap. The wire is likely an aftermarket conversion (likely from Accel) that allows an external coil to be used with an HEI distributor. You should be able to unscrew the square plate inside the coil recess and transfer it to a new cap.

 

Yeah it was made to look like an HEI and comes off of an Accel coil. The bottom of the cap is 5" in diameter.

I bought another cap for a 1969 455 but it is alot smaller than this one for sure.

Again, it was not "made to look like an HEI", it IS an HEI distributor. Just get a cap for that. Any 1973-1990 HEI V8 distributor cap will work. The smaller cap you got for a 69 is for a points-style distributor.
