455 Cam & valvetrain suggestions
455 Cam & valvetrain suggestions
ok, I need some suggestions for cam, lifters, and springs.
The car: 1964 Olds Starfire with a transplanted 455 engine and Turbo 400. The engine is 1974 with J heads, stock intake, HEI distributor, L2323 +.030 pistons, 3.42 rear gears, weight 4560 pounds no power steering, brakes or A/C.
I need a brand/grind, lifters and springs for a heavy car to perform at least as well as the original 345 hp engine. It will be a daily driver and rough idle is not a problem.
The engine is at the machine shop now and I need to make a decision/purchase soon.
Thanks,
Ralph

Erson Hi Flow AH. 220/220@.050 with .500 lift.
It'll drive well and make good overall torque.

Thanks. The original post got "lost" 3 times before it posted. I forgot to mention the heads have "valve rotators" and probably need retainers and split locks. I would like a hydraulic lifters. What springs ?
I'll be calling the machine shop tomorrow to check status of the machine work.

Cam, lifters, springs, retainers and locks would be $435.00 shipped.
Did you already buy the Speed Pro pistons? If so too bad as there are much better pistons out there for not much more.
Thanks.

Valve rotators are gone. The block has been bored to the L2323 pistons, waiting to be honed with torque plates.
I may need pistons for the original W-30 block when I start that car.
