455 Cam suggestions- Looking at XE268 or Voodoo 60802 / 60803...

Sorry for the double post (here & ROP) but I'm looking for some quick opinions.

Summit has a 15% discount code if you buy more than $500 that expires today, so i want to get an order in with some more of the big stuff i need for my motor build (still at my machinists waiting to be honed)

Looking at the Comp XE268 or one of the Lunati Voodoo Cam's to go in it 60802 or 60803, specs below.

my motor will be ~9.5:1 compression w/ headers, 3.23 rear gear initially, 3.42/3.55 eventually. Manual Transmission. Manual Brakes.

Car Craft did a olds 455 build a few years ago, using the xe268, edelbrock heads, 10.1 compression- and it put out 445hp / 510ft lbs. Dyno sheet showed 400ft/lbs at 2500. That sounds about right for what i want.

My motor won't be getting Rev'd much more than 5500 due to the heavy LF2323 pistons & stock rods, etc etc, so i want it to make all its power before then. basically torque monster.

This will be a mostly street used w/ 4 or 5 trips to the track in the summer, and i would like have enough motor to be solidly in the 12 second range (traction & my shifting ability being the limitation)

Thanks for your input:

The Voodoo 60803 will probably be fine. I'm running the 60805 but have a different build. I'll admit it's not a daily driver.

Then I'd do more of a single pattern.

Y not just have our guy on here turn you out a custom cam? It's just the same dollar wise, and will out perform anything you can buy f/ the 455 Olds. All that I've seen on this site andon BBO engines, I've come to the conclusion thru research and building my 455, that a person would be nuts to NOT go thru our guy f/ a cam. There is just no comparison. Here he is just above ,"CutlassEFI".

I opted for the Lunati 60803, Ordered on Thursday before the deal expired.

That was my original preference from a while back, but i had been rethinking things and wanted to get opinions.

Thanks for those who responded with info & comparison results, much appreciated.

Now I just need to get back to bugging my machinist to finish my block work. He does great work & cheap, but S-L-O-W....

You will be happy with the 803. When moving up to an 804 etc. all you are doing is moving up the torque and hp range in rpm. (basicly). I am very happy with my 803 for a street build. Also, I am running a 2500 stall on the 400.

So did you buy it because you felt it was the right cam or because it was the right price?

Several of my close friends run UD/Lunati grinds with great results in their BBC & SBC street strip cars. The 60803 or 60804 were my original first choices from the beginning for this build. The 04 was quickly discounted because I won't have the compression or gear- then when the realities of my build set in (heavy pistons & rotating assembly making sub 5k rpm power desirable) it made me reconsider going smaller still.

So it was not a huge leap to be talked back into the cam I originally wanted.

I like the Lunatis myself as well. Careful with the BBC and SBC talk around here though, you'll get 50 lashes with a limp *cough* wet noodle for mentioning Chevy in comparison to your Olds build XD

Good choice nonetheless

Good choice nonetheless
We'll see when it gets noisy

Yeah I think he's standing right next to me

They do tend to be noisy though.

That cam's duration is small, it should idle like a stock cam.
