455 buildup ?

HI,I,m John and new to Olds .I have a question on a 455 .It no longer has a valley pan and I am going to install a oil deflector to keep hot oil off the manifold, but! The stock deflector looks as if it is slowing oil to the front and rear of the eng. so the oil will flow to the center of the cam .Is there any thing to this, or am I just being to coutious. Yousee after the eng. ate every thing that moves ,I got on line and did some research and found out about the oil problem at high R's. So lets hope the 2nd times the charm. Thanks John

Sorry guys, I don't know if that is enough to cause a problem or not. I do know there are some after market deflectors that don't channel it to the center. My guess, and just a guess is that in normal street applications it doesn't make a difference.

When you had the motor redone, did you have the drainback holes enlarged?

FWIW, I run without a valley pan or a valley deflector and my SBO with a Performer RPM intake was clean last time I pulled it.
