425 timing
Anyone know what the initial timing and centrifugal advance for a 1967 425 should be?
I have the following Engle cam:
0.512 0.523 274°/280° 230° 236° 108°
Using MSD distributor and an edelbrock performer 750 carb on an edelbrock performer manifold.

That sounds good. You know you set it at 20*@950 then you reset your idle at what you feel is good. You can idle it around 800 or so. You set it so when you drop in drive it will still idle smooth. I figure you have a little better stall convertor, which will help make it idle better.

Thanks Gene, those settings got me pretty close. I've got a flat spot when I start at normal speeds, all is fine at WOT though so a little fine tuning. Mid way through the power band I'm getting some pinging but not bad. I'll play with the timing and richen up the primaries next week when my jets kit arrives. I bought a vacuum gage today to validate the manifold vacuum as well.
The frustrating part of the whole timing piece was that the balancer the machine shop ordered and installed does not line up at TDC on this motor. I had to remove the plug, establish true TDC and go from there (which shows 16 degrees advanced at TDC). Once I found TDC on the balancer it was easy to get dialed in. Thanks for your help, I'll let you know once I get everything ticking better. I'm sure I'll have additional questions but having a sound starting place was key.
BTW, I do not have a stall (yet). The 425 is hooked up directly to a new TH350 with a standard converter. I was worried about transferring too much power so stayed conservative for now. I'd appreciate your thoughts or anyones on this subject.
