What cam is that a 268H ? If so, I knew a guy who ran one in a 455 in a 1984 Delta 98 and it ran high 12s low 13s. Don't know what rear gear ratio he was running but it did have slicks.
If you want to make your trans shift at a higher 5200 rpm's without shifting manually, you are going to have to play around with the Governor springs and weights.
I would just shift manually when you want it to shift at higher rpm's.

3.90 gear should be fine but try to run the tallest tire you can fit, like 295/60/15
or a 29.5 x 9 or 10" tire. You'll have to ask around what the tallest tire that will fit your car.
I don't know what the spec's are on the 280H but it should do the job considering a 268H could get you into the 12s.

Interesting info, I'm picking up 2 65 425's this weekend, a Starfire and a Jetstar 1 ,with autos. Considering a build with a 4 speed for my 61 Olds 88. Should run pretty good with what you have. That cam sounds about right.

425 Wheat, no disrespect to this forum but you should try to sign on to realoldspower.com and raise your questions there. You have some serious Olds racers there.
Also, take it easy on the short hand. You're not texting. If you want a clear answer ask a clear question.
