looking for input on swapping out my 1973 455 point dist. to a elect. dist. with a separate coil pack...have read reviews on doing this and I get both good and bad on it...so,lets get your input on this...just do not like to have to replace points every 10-15,xxx miles because they are not made like they were in the 70's...thanks...
I put one of these kits into both my '67 Delta 88 with a 425 and my (now sold) '73 Custom Cruiser with a 455. Gets rid of the points and condenser, but you can use the stock distributor and cap. Went in without much difficulty and works very nicely. Never have to change points or set dwell again.
I have used several Pertronix conversion kits. They have about three different levels. I just used the basic kit and used their coil. It is not really a high energy ignition. I have been very pleased with Pertronix. It makes for quick starts and no maintenance. This topic has been debated on here a lot. There are a lot more complaints about the poor quality of points than there are about failed modules on conversion kits. I really don't remember seeing anybody mentioning a failed conversion.
