1969 400 identification

Trying to figure out the numbers of my 400 motor
The block has correct 396026 G but the vin number does not make sense, the vin number is 59M222941, from every thing I have read it should start with a 3 for Oldsmobile division does any one know what the 5 stands for? Also any ideas what it came out of? It's currently in my 69 442 built in the Fremont plant.

That's a 3, not a 5.

Randy are you looking at the first picture or the second? It starts with a 5.

I may be wrong, but maybe this is how Randy is seeing a 3 and not a 5. I'm not familiar with how 3s were stamped into the block, but thought I'd contribute something. It resembles the font of the 3 in the first picture. It may just be the lighting and the angle that makes it resemble a 5.

Looks like a "3" to me also. "5" is GMC trucks, so obviously you could never get a "5" from the Lansing plant.

Joe -- he said above that it was built at Fremont.? If the VIN has an M in it, isnt it definitely a Lansing build?

That motor came out of a 69 Lansing car. So if its in a Fremont car, it cannot be the original engine. I guess if the number was same as the cars VIN, you probably wouldnt have asked the question in the first place -eh?

Ive not seen all that many G block application stamps but this one doesnt look anything like the ones that ive seen? All the ones ive seen are rather lightly stamped and sometimes barely discernable?

Correct. That first number is definitely a 3.
