1967 442 aluminium radiator fitment

Hey guys so my father in law bought a 4 row champion radiator for the 442 and it requires new mounts to be made. Has any one already tackled this adventure. I'm in need of some ideas on how to build new mounts. I have a couple ideas but thought I would ask.

The new radiator has no provisions for any mounts so all will have to be fabricated. I don't have a welder that can do aluminium so I won't be able to add any mounts to the radiator it self.

Thanks for looking

They sell factory style iron mounts that are wider for 4 row radiators and the rubber cushion inserts. These can be welded where you need them or even screwed down. It is crazy that a new radiator does not have formed areas for mounts of some kind either top and bottom or on the sides.

Yeah its a big race type radiator. It get pretty hot here in the summers and he doesn't want any cooling issues. The bottom of the radiator is pretty square and flat

So what I would think would be factory style U brackets, possibly build a frame for it, straps, or something like that.

that's an idea. what I thought of doing was getting some angle iron and building a pocket for the bottom and top and putting some rubber in it to cushion it

This is where it will sit. Mind you the top and bottom need to be powder coated still.

I mount this same radiator in stock cars all day long. Your on the right track. I take the 1"x1/8" flat bar and just fab up saddles the go underneath each end just in from the tanks. Probably use the stock style bracket to hold the top. Your way looks fine.

For all the guys reading this thread just another idea, I bought a later model Suburban Radiator from Auto Zone for around $150.00 and two hose reducer sleves from NAPA and it drops right in. No welding, cutting, carving. It keeps my 67 with a strong 455 at 160 degrees, rarely sees more than 180 degress in Dallas heat. In my 64 F-85 pro-touring build under construction I bought a Champion radiator and with the wider Olds mounts it dropped in but I had to modify the top hold down bracket due to the thickness of the radiator. That is some nice work getting it to fit with quality!

Those welds are really nice, great job. Are you going to use some sort of a cushion-rubber to sit the radiator on?

Thanks man. Yeah I plan to use some adhesive backed rubber weather stripping I found at the hardware store.

Just sent the pieces off to be powder coated to match everything else. Should have the pieces back on Friday and have it all put back together.

Nice job. I highly recommend you also use the factory style rubber that goes on each side of the radiator it helps keed the air flow thru the radiator instead of around it.

Those are those dark green in color pieces that are square on one end and some sort of tension loaded pointed on the other. I think I got mine from Fusick or Ames performance. If you were my neighbor I give you some

Haha yeah that would be nice. Those clips are not high on my lost right now. Being a frame off I have lots of other things to do. Getting close to being able to fire her off though.
