1965 Olds 400 Build

Hello Olds Friends

I finished up the 455 for Joe's 1970 442 convertible last year. It turned out FABULOUS! It was a close to 0 deck with C heads and factory intake and exhaust manifolds, forged pistons, mildly massaged cylinder heads retaining the 2.08 intakes and with a custom flat tappet cam provided by Cutlass EFI here on the website. Mark nailed the cam spot on and the customer and myself were more than pleased. If anyone wants pics of Joe's car let me know. I don't think he will mind. It's the nicest all stock and never restored 442 vert I have ever seen.

Now onto the next project. I will be starting another Olds build with a little more aggressiveness in mind. This is for a 1965 Olds 442 4-speed car. It will be an early 400 (large bore short stroke) with a Torker intake and should have the pistons close to 0 deck topped with a set of Speedmaster or Edelbrock heads. However, I need a source to find the early 400 camshaft (different valve angle) or cam core. If anyone knows where I can find some of those cams I would certainly appreciate it.

Best Regards,
Darren

Convertible 442

Darren, that convertible is a nice car and you made it very wicked, but stock appearing.
I can’t wait till you get on the 65 400.

Hey Darren,
Ditch the Torker. And as discussed we’ll figure out the next cam choice.

Erson had some 45 degree cores about a year ago anyway. They did one for me for a 425. I can check with them on Monday. I am pretty sure Mark uses their cams also ?

Yes I do. But they haven’t had any Olds cores in awhile.
And flat tappet cores are the same, no matter if it’s 39 or 45*. Rollers can differ however.

Darren,

You might want to get in touch with Camcraft. They specialize in oddball stuff and have helped me out in the past.

Otherwise you might just have to get on the phone and start calling around to see if you can find someone with cores.
