10:1 pistons with g heads

Hi guys, another green engine builder question, My machine shop is boring my 455 .030 over and installing 10:1 pistons with my stock G heads.

So my question is will this affect running on pump gas.....will I have to just run premium gas???

Sorry if this is a real stupid question, but the more info I know the better right!!!

Thanks!!

Hey Scooter,

Maybe a better way to go about this is to find out what piston your machine shop is boring it to. The part number would be extremely helpful.
As has been posted before, there are many variables that will dictate compression ratio. Believe it or not too many machinists just look in a book and blindly pick a piston that "should" work.
However to answer your question, yes with 10.0:1 you will need to use premium.

Also other details of your build would be helpful as well.

Thanks.
