I don't think "old boy" cares anymore seeing that this was posted in 2006.

Yeah, he might have spent two or three years ringing his hands, checking our site everyday, waiting for someone to answer his post so he could get his car started again.

Sad thing is this, he posted two threads needing help and did not receive a reply on either one. Sadder thing is, I was here then. This is a lesson to me, and all of us to not let this kind of thing "get under the radar". I am ashamed, honestly....

but your comment was funny Jesse.

Boy I'm glad I didn't ask this question, My STS Cadd battery died in December and I had to get the owners manual to find out it was under the back seat. Pays to read the directions

When did they start pulling that out? I always thought that was a bit foolish. longer cables= greater resistance. mess if one goes bad. and what about a violent wrech, tha last thing an injured person needs is batt juice pouring all over them...OWCH

If you look under the hood of the STS you can see there is no room. Why they didn't put the battery in the trunk is a good question. It is a large battery and it was all I could do to get the damn thing out and back in again.

Really I think the underseat spot is a great use of space in these cars. The only problem is they used standard batteries that needed that goofy gas tube. When mine eventually dies I'll replace with a sealed deep cycle and be done with it.

There's also the matter of the longevity of them in this location. I'm on my second Aurora and the battery in the first car lasted over 8 years and 150k miles. I just sold that car (a 97 Autobahn) at 206k miles. I bought a 40k mile 96 Autobahn and swapped the battery I bought for the 97 in before I sold it. I can't complain at all about the location. It stays nice and clean too for what that's worth and it wasn't tough at all to swap it...

The Aurora Club of North America, is another free Olds site. Great source of information on Auroras.

He slipped through the cracks. We are trying to make sure every one at least gets acknowledged. The plan is that this does not happen again.

Smile Slow replies

I think the basic plan is to answer all questions...his was just a little too far down the list for an immediate reply...I had to wait until this Christmas to get my High speed...

I have a 98 Aurora that I bought new and the battery also lasted 8 years, the only battery I have ever had last that long.
What is the difference between an Autobahn and the rest of the Aurora cars?

Autobahn does not have a speed limiter. Car can go over 110 MPH (not advised!) it has the Autobahn package. Also check the sticker inside the drivers door, V rated tires = Autobahn. H rated non-Bohn. Autobahn also has lower gear ratio in the differential.

The answer to the OP was deleted by its author a while back for some odd reason, so I restored it. The question WAS answered on the next day, so my bet is that the OP found his battery.

You're right. I think it has something to do with the original intent by GM to create a universal body platform (first called the GM10 chassis, later called the W Body) for all mid size cars back in the 1980's. As you know, GM stopped the program because they were losing a lot of $$$ on each car produced. The only Oldsmobiles that were W body were 88-97 Cutlass Supreme and 98-02 Intrigue. I think the reference to the Aurora was just a slip. Far as I know the W Body cars were the forerunner of most of the GM line up today, but not sure though.....
