The same here, I have always liked the 2nd Gen. Aurora, and my '07 Malibu Maxx is a big disappointment, so I have been looking around.

Thanks.

I love the cars but you have to be willing to do semi-frequent sensor replacement. Not a big deal. I'd suggest an '03 if you do it. Somehow the Final 500 rides 10 times better than the '01 (that I bought new) but the '01 seems to be faster. Be sure to get the northstar.......

On what ??? That doesn't sound like a quality build if that's the case.....
I love the car itself, but sensors aren't cheap. Especially MAF's.

Every car has its common ailments. The earlier ones had crank position sensor issues that once replaced are fine. All have coolant level sensor issues that requires replacement of the entire tank. Some folks have issue with wires to wheel sensors which triggers stability control codes. The bottom line is they are annoyances only. No MAF or MAP sensor issue and ours is about to turn 100m miles. Mechanical issues have been minimal and well worth it when considering the benefits of the car which are great ride, handling and acceleration. When my wife would not give me her Aurora, I went out and bought the Final 500. That's how bad I wanted one as a daily driver.......

The worse sensor is the ISS. I have two (one on my 96 and one on my 01).

I also have had the wheel speed sensor wiring chafe through due to rubbing on the floor pan - on my 96. Kind of a nuisance to track down.

My 01 also has a wheel sensor on the fritz now, it turns on the abs light ONLY during a left hand turn. I dont have an ABS code scanner but am pretty confident its the left wheel due to increased noise during right hand turn.

Great cars. Id love to have a second for my wife. When the right one comes along i will buy another.

The nuisances are worth it.

We just got back from vacation. We did not take the wife's brand new Audi A5 but took the '01. 750 miles trouble free and turned 100,000 miles along the way. It was in the 90's everyday and even with the air on, we averaged 25 mpg in the mountains of NY.

Would love to get a low mileage 1st gen or a Final 500. The final 500 are so hard to find but they look so nice.

How much to change the CPS? There is a 97 Aurora for sale here and the guy wants $700 but says it probably needs a timing belt. Could it be that it only needs a CPS?

I don't know much about the first gen but I do not believe they had the issue with the crank position sensor or the cam position sensor. There are two of each. The Northstar has timing chains not belts so I don't think that is the issue. Either one would throw a code - is there one? I don't think it would be much beyond $200.

BTW, I like the green!

I use this place to get most of my info where I am rocketman.

I put CPS' on my First Gen a couple of years ago. I seem to recall them being 35-40 each. Its not an uncommon failure for those. Are you sure thats what the car needs?
