Smile 67 442 350 engine install

My 67 442 has it's original engine in Ohio being rebuilt. Been there 9+ months. Not sure when I'll get it back. Have an opportunity to temporarily install a low mileage 68 Olds 350 4V. It is complete with all pulleys, Exhaust manifolds, carb to pan, clutch fan to flex plate. Will this bolt into my 67? Motor mounts? S/P TH400? Flex plate? I was just going to use it till I get my 400E motor back. This way I wouldn't miss another entire cruising/Show season. I miss driving my 442 and I'm tired of everyone in our club ( The Gearjammers) asking me either if I still have it or when it's going to be on the road again.

Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

Should be no problem other than the exhaust down pipes.

9 Months????? WOW! The machine shop that did mine had it done in a week. I would think one month tops to get one done. I think you need to turn up the pressure some, make sure they still have your motor.

The machine shop I usually use for my Chevy engines usually takes about 3-4 months. They are busy, they build engines for couple of local racing teams. I love going there, I get to drool over some of the more exotic engines.

In my home town Lubbock, Tx. is a machine shop that i used there. The guy built and shipped hi po motors all over the country and some out of the country, very busy shop. He literally made millions, but he did my motors usually in less than a month, and I was small change for him. Unfortunately his ex wife killed him last year, I think his son may still be running the shop. I did love going there too, you could eat off the floors it was so clean.

It's no different than the usual question about going the other way. Note that the 1968-up motors have the different crank flange pattern, so you need the flexplate that goes with the engine. As always, use the water pump, accessory brackets, and pulleys as a matched set. And as noted, the SBO exhaust manifolds may not match up with your current pipes.

Headers are an issue. Noone makes a header for 67 330 engine any more. That is what you would use on a 350 in a 67. BBO 67 headers will fit but they hang down low. If using stock manifolds you would just to need to have an exhaust shop fabricate your pipes.

It would be an easier temporary fix to find a G or F block motor for a direct interchange.

The flexplate might not work. The 400 flexplate won't bolt to the 350 crank. I'm not sure the exhaust manifolds exit in exactly the same place. The 350 weighs less so the front of the car will sit higher.

Correct. 1964-67 cranks have a different bolt pattern than 1968-90 cranks.

They should be close, but may not be exactly correct.

The difference is only about 40-50 lbs. Probably not enough to even notice.

Weight

She's definitely sitting higher. Hydraulic floor jack fits under it easily now. Before was tight. Thanks everybody for you help. Motor is in but it won't crank. Hear a single click then nothing on subsequent start attempts. New battery, tried two different starters. Is it possible to install flex plate facing the wrong way? Solenoid has power (9V)on "R" with ignition in start or run positions. Power (8.5V) on "S" during crank position only. Plan on checking ground tomorrow. Parking and headlights work OK.

x2.
Reading my mind, Steve.
The distance and lack of regular communication
makes it easy for the machine shop to forget who you are.
Been there, done that.

He said the flex plate came with the 350.

350 into 442

New battery. Voltage is 12.8-13V. Used the 350 flex plate. Bolt pattern different between my 400 flex plate and the 350 flex plate. The question is can the 350 flex plate be put on facing the wrong way? Since the ring gear is not centered on the flex plate it could place the ring gear further, one way or the other, in the wrong direction? Starters are physically the same looking, and bolt right up. Both have 9 teeth on the bendix. 400 Starter has snout stud. Assuming for a starter brace. 350 starter came on engine with a starter brace that is curved and screws into the side of the starter case. Will revisit my wiring today. Suspect ground or battery feed wire. Just trying to get it on the road again been over 10 months waiting on my 400E. Not on here to disparage anyone, 3 things have happened, health wise, that have delayed the engine rebuild. Then the weather (Snow/cold), held it up some more. Found a great deal on this 350 from a great member(Rummer), over on ROP. Decided to temporarily put this 350 in because it looks like it may be a year (June), or more before my original motor is completed. Once again, thanks everyone.

Once again into the breach, one Olds, in a sea of Chevelle's/Camaro's.

olds 350

Everything is improving. Engine not cranking was cured by shimming the starter. Bendix was banging into the flex plate but not engaging. Dumbie here put a new ground cable on, then a new cable from the fender power distribution block to the starter. Read and re-read the purple and yellow wires. Key switch in all positions.(crank, run, off), read good. Swapped out starters. Shims, go figure. Thanks to everyone who responded.
