What determined the location? Mine is on the driver's side and the Charcoal canister on the passenger side but I have seen similar cars with the washer jar on the passenger side.

Heck of a question. I thought it might be related to whether you had AC or not, but here are 2 pics showing AC and non AC with the washer jugs in the same location:

I wonder if it has anything to do with which plant the car was manufactured at. I checked in the assembly manual and strangely enough, it shows the washer fluid jar on the passenger side. Go figure. But they also show the coolant overlow reservoir in exactly the same place. I'm starting to think it was up to the individual shift workers to pop in a washer tank where they wanted. If you look at the inner fender liner, there are 3 holes pre-drilled on the drivers side and nothing on the passengers side that fits the washer bottle.

There, now you've done it. Opened another can of worms......Oh well. I'm just going to leave mine where it came from the factory - on the drivers side.

Mike, I assume you are asking about your 1971?

I can't speak for 1971, but in 1970 the washer jug location for the A-bodies depending on one factor: big block or not. The big block cars (442, SX, some Vista Cruisers) had the resevoir installed on the passenger side. Small block (and L6) cars had it installed on the driver's side.

Today's trivia question is: WHY?! The engine is nowhere near the washer resevoir, so why does engine size determine location? The answer is that the big block cars (I'm talking 1970 again; your year may differ) received a larger batter -- one which would interfere with the resevoir. The engineers obviously didn't think the larger battery through too well, because it also required some spacers to be installed under the tray just so it would fit.

My '71 IS on the driver's side next to the battery (455 w/ A/C). Unfortunately I can't remember what year of car I saw it on the passenger side, it may well have been '70 Big Block. My Assembly manual reprints do show some pics of it on the passenger side too Allan. Add it to the voluminous "...why the heck...?" column.

On a '68 and '69 with Ram Induction the left hand hose passes right through the spot where the washer jug mounts and if you put a grommet on each side of the jug you would lose too much volume of washer fluid...

What up guys! How do I install washer bottle and radiator overflow on passenger side correct ? I found some old discussion about overflow position but I could not find answer. Anyone have pictures? Thanks

There you go its my 70 SX. I had to move the wiper tank to driver side with the over flow in its place.
