442 fender numbers

I have two sets of 442 cast numbers #402319 and 402321 my question is two of the 4,s are solid with no numbers is that normal? They were on the car but are not correct . Just curious.

I asked the same question and got no response: Emblem difference? Solid versus hollow back.

Best I can tell, those hollow back jobs are 69-70 factory originals. I don't know if it was during the 1971 run or before, they used solid-back emblems at some point. I specifically recall my then-all original 71 442 I took apart years ago had solid-backed emblems. I still have them in a box. If you look at the product information manual in section 11, you'll see even through 1971 they called for the hollow-back part number fender emblems. So, at some point in the 1971 run, again, at the start or somewhere after that, they went to the solid-backed emblem for the fenders. Of course, I was 11 at that time the 1971s were built, so by the time I was able to buy OTC emblems at the dealership, they were all solid-backed. TBH, I don't think it matters that much as you never see the backs.

From the 71 PIM:

Of course, PIM information isn't always set in stone. For instance, in the 69 PIM, they originally were going to use an adhesive backing for the fender emblems to attach. That never happened to my knowledge. Unless someone knows of that happening. I sure never saw it.

Solid backed fenders:

Hood:

Trunk: (note- one-year only for 1973 442 had similar numbers, but were more flat because of the trunklid shape)

Thanks!
I suspected they were originals I just had no idea what years they were used.
