Chrome Quarter Extensions??

A buddy of mine just picked up this 1970 442 convertible. Needs a little tlc but overall a really nice shape. I have never seen chrome quarter

extensions. Am I correct in thinking someone had these done for some reason? Thanks

Yes, you are correct.
Never offered.
Looks like someone used a chainsaw to smooth out the crescent..

Back in the 80's-90's when these cars were not expensive. It was common to see this on any car with the rear quarter extension. People would pull the extension and send it out to chrome.
I never understood it.

These extensions are pot metal and a lot of times are just polished instead of chromed. The bumps on the bottom are actually notches for the studs on the missing trim piece.

Ah. I didn't realize there is a trim piece missing. I need to be sure my buddy gets those God awful things in the correct color with the proper trim!

That chrome on the extension looks awful....out of place. I'd paint it and replace the trim.
