Copies vs. Originals

Opinions needed:

I know for a fact a W30 is authentic; unfortunately, the original paperwork was lost with the transfer of the car to the buyer in 2016. My question is if one purchsed a car in such a situation would the resale number take a hit down the road because the documentation consists only of copies rather than originals to support W30 authentication? I'm talking copies of window sticker, broadcast card etc.

It would matter to me. Frankly, I don't understand how someone who thought the original document was important enough to get a copy of it would somehow "lose" the original itself. Unfortunately factory paper can be faked and in these days of photoshop, a mere copy of an original document is even easier to fake.

However, If you had an inspection report from a nationally trusted authority to validate the car, that would help offset doubt of potential buyers downstream.

Remove fake from the equation. The copies are legit. As important as documentation is mishandling does occur.

I woiuld expect the value would be negatively affected to some degree unknown to me.

I would guess hokey documents / copies cut cars value in half

My opinion, yes the resale value would take a hit.
Personally I would not trust copies.
When original documents are tampered with,a person can make a copy, then make a copy of the copy and so on,the more the copies are copied,it helps cover up the tampering.

Original proof is old and crusty
That can be faked
Nice copies of recent transactions
And the subsequent copies are what I would fear
That is if I was looking for more cars to buy now.

Yes, the value takes a hit. You may know the car is legit, but eventually, the next person doesnt have that same knowledge, and copies of "Old" paper work become almost worthless.

How about other verifications, does it have an automatic? An OW code transmission with matching vin number would work if it hasn't been tampered with. It's getting tougher to verify anything these days with all the counterfeiting going on.
