Was wondering, was the inner section of this strip actually painted argent? I always thought it was a brushed effect on the chrome but perhaps I'm wrong.

Mine is just like the one on ebay. But come on $484 for that, that's just crazy!

 

Dan, does that mean that inner section should be painted? Want to know if I need to paint mine before putting it back on the car, as the chrome is fine.

Mine is all chrome.

 

When I restored my '68, the original piece was painted argent. I stripped the old paint, taped off the upper and lower edge, sprayed it with argent, and then cleaned off the tops of the OLDSMOBILE letters such that the argent still outlines the middle parts of the letters. It took a little time but that's the way it came originally. By the way, I had to order the repros of the pieces that go on the fenders - the argent on those pieces was exactly the same as the argent I used on the trunk strip. I've seen cars that were left all chrome and they look good, too. Bottom line - it's up to you!

I just used the agent silver wheel paint available from Year One. I'm sure you could find an equivalent at any auto parts store, just as long as the color says argent on it. Silver doesn't cut it. I attached a rear view picture of my car that might show the trunk strip somewhat better. I really need to buy a digital camera - I'm still working with 35mm film!

Oh, I finally broke down and got a digital camera a couple years ago. You be amazed at how much easier it is to use and deal with. Plus, just the capability of take endless photos (that you can save or delete) is great when it comes to cars and restoring them.

 

My '68 has the argent in the mldg on the trunk.
