68 post car question

OK, I've been wondering this for awhile and keep forgetting to ask. 1968 442 Sports Coupe: the interior side moldings along the headliner were a brushed aluminum or stainless piece. Is this true for the Sports Coupe, or did they use the normal windlace type material due to the B-pillar?

I know the Cutlass post cars had the windlace type material, but I'm not sure about the 442

Tom,

Where exactly are you looking at. Can you take a picture of the area? I will then take a picture of mine. My interior is 100% original. Nothing has been done to it.

Tom,

Do you have any new pictures of your car. I would love to see it.

Thanks Dan

I don't have any yet. When I go back to AZ in early May, I should have some with it in paint.

Basically, look at your headliner. If you are looking at the area where it meets the windshield, there's something called windlace there--it's the plastic/rubber strip that's textured. If your headliner is black, it'll be black. If green, then it's green, etc. etc... OK, now still looking at your headliner, look at it where it meets the door opening. This is also windlace. It could be the exact same as the front windlace, or I'm pretty sure there was an option for aluminum strips to cover up this area. Basically, it's used to cover the end of the headliner & interior roof edges. Not sure if my description helps. I want to know about the door windlace. My Holiday Coupe 442 had the aluminum strips. My Sports Coupe has the plastic rubber windlace that is the same as the front and rear window windlace.

Tom,

I would have to say yes. It's definitely NOT aluminum strips.

Thanks!

Now that my memory is jarred, I think the chrome strips came with the deluxe interior package--along with the deluxe seatbelts.

?? What is the deluxe interior package? I believe deluxe seat belts are an option solely by themselves, and not part of any packeage.

They're the ones with the brushed stainless steel buckles.

Think it might be part of the Y67 Deluxe Interior Package option.

No, the Y67 is an interior upgrade available only on the F-85 models. Independent of deluxe seat belts.

I had a 1968 Delta Custom and I believe it had the aluminum trim instead of the vinyl windlace above the doors. Could this be what you were thinking of? John

Smile Laced

The '68 442 hardtops had bright trim over the windows as standard and the post cars had vinyl windlace...
