GM parts book says the 400 CID in 1969 uses R44S plugs.
Group 2.270 part number 5612072

Good luck at the store as they aren't made any more... The current parts books list exchanges that actually map to the original R45S (hotter) or R43S (colder). I don't know how big a heat-range difference there was (the 44 was in between), but the R45S were originally for low compression cars while the R43S was not used for anything Olds in 69...

I have a copy of a bulletin from Hurst, recommending the R43S for use in place of the R44S in the 69 H/O if the car was mainly highway driven, for what it's worth.

I've also seen a copy of a vintage article from one of the car magazines that ran autolite spark plugs instead of the original Delco's and ran a better quarter. I'll have to see if I can find it somewhere.

As I could find them, I'm running the R43S in mine. That is what they used in the non-A/C 68 H/O out the door. I don't think any other Olds used them in 68/9.

The W31 used the R43S in '69. I looked this up in my chassis service manual after acquiring my car.
