hey guys. I have a 1972*** (type-o :P) Cutlass (442 Clone) (just bought it from a friend, picking it up this weekend)

I don't have pics atm, but it maroon, white rag top, white interior. Its in near perfect condtion, not the greatest paint but still nice, and just needs a couple little things fixed up. It has the 2 vents like in the link below. I am kicking myself because idr what the grille looked like, but it was similar to the link below.

I was wondering: Where do you get stripes? Whuch ones are correct? I want to get 442 correct stripe, but idk what package i have (cloned). I think it's either the one down thee middle, or this one:

http://www.phoenixgraphix.com/gm/7172olds.htm

Also, where is best to get some chrome bumpers? ebay?

Lastly: how much is it for a hood like the one on the link in good condition? How about the grille?

thanks

Welcome, if it's a '72, Fusick has the hood stripes. '71 will have the Tri stripe down the center of the hood..painted I believe. For rechromed bumpers check Hemmings for platers in your area. If you have fellow car guys that you hang with, ask them, there is probably someone in your area that does plating. Do not use "Bumper Boyz" I have run into people who are very unhappy with their quality (chrome peeling after one year).

Welcome! There are several other 72 W29 442 clones running around here...
Maroon?? Does not sound like a factory color but if it is the color I am picturing in my mind, I bet it looks sharp!
I need to get the hood stripes also. I want them in dark brown (like a factory choice) but they are not available in that. Side W29 stripes are not reproed yet (to my knowledge.)
The grilles should look like in the picture for W29.
If your bumpers are straight and not rusty, have them rechromed. I need to have that done some day. Buying repros and shipping them can be costly.

Welcome aboard to the site! I can't answer the question about the stripes but maybe someone else will chime in here. You can get your bumpers rechromed or you could buy reproduction ones on ebay or Brothers Automotive Products. Call up a few places and get estimates to see what would be the best deal. Hope that helps.

Thanks

I see them one ebay for around 300-400 with shipping.

I live in lower NY also, where do you suggest getting them rechromed? They are straight.

And I'm gonna go with a white stripe to match the rag :P

Do you know if i can get chrome inserts for the vents?

thanks!

I was gonna go with white to go with the vinyl top and interior.

Thanks everyone!

Should I get a chrome water neck? They are 20 bucks on ebay, I'm just not to sure where they are located or what they are. how about chrome valve covers?

Thanks!

So what color is the engine? Post some pictures! Best to see before we can advise (we like seeing pictures here anyway as you can tell...)

On these chrome items, it would probably be best to follow your heart and gut feeling to what you like.
Personally I like the all stock look, but custom can be tasteful if not outrageously done. Do keep the stock parts if later you change your mind.
Since the paint is custom, a few changes under the hood should blend in.

There will be lots of opinions on this though.
The hood vents can be had from forum members from time to time - put out a part wanted post and see what comes in.

Posting pics will help us with our own opinions , which may or may not help you. I think the white stripes will stand out a lot more since you have a dark color but I have seen black on dark blue. As far as chrome parts in the engine bay it's really up to you what you want it to look like. i started out just wanting to repaint the block but ended up spending the whole winter last year changing lots of stuff. but I like it and that's what really counts.
