New to me 1973 442
Added a car to the fleet. Not many love the post 72 cars but for those who do have interest here is my new addition.
91000 mi original paint car purchased today from the original owner who ordered the car new.
350 T350 2.73 posi
W-29 optioned Cutlass S
gauges, tilt column with sport wheel, sport mirrors,
buckets with console shift
bumper impact strip, AM radio & SS 111 rims
door edge guards
PS, PDB, & I think HD cooling (fan shroud)
Rust coming in usual places but how often does one get a chance to buy an original car from an original owner who ordered the car?
I see aftermarket cruise, Alpine stereo (has original) & a vacuum gauge. Bucket seats were recovered by his brother in the 1990s. He has the snorkel which he says just cracked & was falling off 20 years ago. Apart from plugs, coil, wires & tires she is all original including the windshield.
He changed the oil every 1,000 mi since new (91 oil changes....91!). The car has been hiding in storage since Oct 2006.
Verbal hand shake & deposit sent. The car is 925 km (575 mi) away from me so I wont be picking her up until May.
Looking forward to getting her home.
Sending away for the GM of Canada documentation tomorrow. He thinks he has the original Bill of Sale (traded in a 1969 400 Firebird).

Brings Back Memories
I bought one similar to it back in early 1973! Black 442, 350, 4 speed, swivel buckets. I was in the Army and drove it from my home in Lansing to Ft Bliss Texas on its first trip. It was black on black with no AC. It got so hot inside sitting in the sun, that I would burn my rear end on the vinyl seats! I think the 73's are still cool, the rear bumper really became ungainly from 74 on up.

Home safely with the 73 442
I am back home in Cochrane AB after a 1200 mile round trip trip to Yorkton Saskatchewan to pick up the 1973 442. It took me 11 hours each way fighting a nasty headwind on the way east. 11 mpg on the way there & 14 mpg on way back with the car tells you how hard that Prairie Wind was blowing on my 26' enclosed trailer.
Buying the car was a wonderful experience. I had a great visit & a meal with the original owners. They gave me the complete service history on the car which was delivered to them on May 3 1973 for the sum of $4050.
The car is very original & I am a happy with the purchase. It is far from perfect but well bought.

Here is a short walk around video that I shot prior to loading it for home.

Congrats, Dave! You don't see too many of the '73-'77 cars with original documentation being purchased directly from their original Owner(s). Nice original car...sounds nice too.
For the "factory correct" crowd of this era, are you going to document the body stripes, body decal codes/stamps, etc. for future reference?

The car is still in my trailer as I am heading to the coast for a couple of weeks. Back in Mid-May to begin playing with the car.

Update
I finally got to have some time with this car.
The car is numbers matching & very solid. There is some minor rust in the usual places but the trunk floor & floors are sweet. There was some minor body work done behind the rear wheels on both sides at some point but the car is 95% original paint.

IMG_20160519_143029_zpscxdwepwr.jpg
Apparently the cowl tags were already attached to the cowl when painted.
IMG_20160519_162638_zpshuxtz024.jpg
Spent 2 days cleaning & removing 43 years worth of grime. Still more cleaning to do. Got the interior looking spiffy.

new shoes
I decided to set aside the original SS1 rims with the tires from 1986 & swapped in the SS 11 repo rims that I recently removed from my 1972 W-30. Fronts are 225 70 15s on 7" & rears are 275 60 15 on 8" with 4.5" BS

Fresh Paint alert
This 442 has been in body shop hell for 14 months. But there is progress.
I look forward to seeing it all back together in the next few weeks.
Here is some fresh black paint on some of the "now" rust free components. The body is in the booth today.
