need help decoding 442

need help decoding 442

This is all new to me with oldsmobile i just purchased a 1970 442 w30 from
a buddy he owend the car for 25 years just sitting in his garage front clip off
motor out tranny out car is solid but needs a little body work but is all there and needs put back together it is a auto tranny with column shift i did not know if they made these.Car is orange in color with black vinyl top and black
interior black strips on hood and sides manual discs breaks in front and drums in rear red plastic inter fenders here is the vin s# 344870M167400 and here is the
cowl # ST7034487LAN268318BDY
TRZ940 -B PNT
10D

any help would be great

It is a true 442 which is designated by the 344 in the VIN. The only way to tell if it is a real W-30 is paperwork. Look in the back seat springs, under the carpet, inside the door panels a sail panels, in the headliner, under the dash, above the gas tank, etc. You need to find the broadcast sheet and/or build sheet to confirm the W-30 authenticity. Column shift was always an option with automatics. Good luck with the car!
