How to clean out differential?

We disconnected the drive shaft and drained the differential to replace all the seals today (front seal on the differential was leaking), Cleaning the back cover up in the process. Is there a good method for cleaning out the residue/left over oil in the differential? For sitting for over 34 years most of what was drained out was still in pretty good condition.

Trying to document the process with photos as we go - photos from today start here - http://imgur.com/a/9B8wx#32

Thanks!

I don't claim any expertise (contact Monzaz on this board for expert advice on rear ends), but I just mop out the whole thing with paper towels till its good and clean, then leave a few in there for a day or two to sop up the rest that runs off the gears.
Much easier if the car is on a lift.

Lots of Brake Cleaner and paper towels/rags and just keep dousing and wiping.

Is it hard to redo the front seal in the rear diff? My 68 442s is starting to leak and I have never attempted to do such a job before. I would love to put a posi unit in there one day too. I just have too many projects going on right now LOL

You can always ship that rear end to Texas and I'll clean it up for you I'll even get rid of that weak aluminum center section for ya haha!
