Hood hinge color

Looking for information on the hinge color for a 1970 442. The one's I took off were black. Seemed like they were on the car originally. The restoration cars I've seen are cast color or zinc plated. Any advice?

I believe hinges are gray phosphate plated. Plymouth Plating in MI did a good job on mine.

Grey Phosphate plated as mentioned above.....darkness depends on the metal, the plater and many times which type of phosphate treatment was used. You have Brakeboosters.com there in So Cal and he does a lot of component plating including a correct finish for these hinges...

Probably not the cheapest place to have them done but very consistent results and very nice work typically.

I have some NOS hinges and looking at them I'm torn between maganese phosephate (dark gray) versus zinc phosphate (lighter gray). I need to look at them again. But it could be that the service parts, fabricated at a later date, received a different metal treatment. My understanding these were the two phosphate formulations used in that time period. Maganese I've read has somewhat higher corrosion resistance than the zinc phosphate. Both generally receive an oil treatment.
