Help decoding 1968 engine code and verifying if 442?

New owner 1968 442/new to the forum. I'm looking for some help verifying if engine is original to car as told when purchased; said it was 400 cu in. Based on the research I've done for the block to be original on the pad it would read 38××××××× with the last seven matching the Vin. So Vin 344778M101339 should have 38M101339 on the block pad, correct? I think that matches though tough to read. Then looking at the heads, the code appears to be 394548 with code C; if I researched correctly those are heads for a 425 or 455 cu in though. So possibly original block with NOHs? Thanks in advance for any assistance

C head?

head 394548 does this equal 425 or 455? engine supposed to be 400

block stamp, a little difficult but looks to be 38 and 101339 at end..dont see the M in between but would need to clean?

C heads were used on the 400, 425, and 455 engines from 1967 to 1969.

The block casting number will tell you what the block is.

Yes, that's exactly what it is. C heads are factory-issue for that block.
