First 1964 442 Magazine Ad

Interesting article in August 2014 Hemmings. Maybe everyone knows this but me, but the first 442 magazine ad was for a 4 door 442 with police officers in the car.

In the 1980s, there was a series of books called "Muscle Car Mania" featuring ads, so anyone who had that book back in the day should be familiar with the ad. Not sure if it's an overpriced relic on eBay but may be worth seeking out. I believe the second version was called "Son of...."

Images of that ad can certainly be found easily by googling "1964 Olds 442 advertisement" on google images (images.google.com).

Any idea if this was a legit one? While I haven't done many shows in a long time (I use to do a lot of them), I've never seen one or heard of anyone with one. Too cool!

Talked to the owner, he said that it was, though I saw no paperwork, have to take him at his word.

You are correct. I bought them both when they came out. That was the first resurrection of the musclecars after gas crisis one and two.

ad pictured above is from the July '64 issue of HOT ROD, a pretty inexpensive magazine if you are looking for an original ad

If you want a clean digitally restored copy, go to the AHPS library:

Also there is this (that Hemmings doesn't have):

The ad was not really "for a 4-dr 442". The ad was for a 442 showing Police car use to show the origin of the option. With only 10 4-doors made (IIRC), the message wasn't lost.

I believe this car first "showed up" at the 2008 Nats in Dearborn. Has been pretty well determined not to be an original 442.
