Am I Missing Something???

http://www.ebay.com/itm/19680000-Old...vip=true&rt=nc

Am I wrong? Take a look at the VIN. I sent a message to the owner and asked if this fine looking vehicle was still available. I told him it was an extremely nice tribute car but not a real 4-4-2. Hmmm.....
Seems the "1" in the VIN makes it a Canadian 4-4-2. He even has paper to prove it. LOL
Reply I got was it may be for sale but not to me and not to email him again, I didn't know what I was talking about.

Maybe I missed something in the production VIN numbers for Oshawa, ON vehicles?

3 42 87 8 1 xxxxxx

3 - Oldsmobile
42 - Cutlass Supreme
87 - Holiday Coupe
8 - 1968
1 - Oshawa plant
xxxxxx - Sequence number

You're right, and he's a dirtbag.

By the way, the listing says "Ended."

Okay, I was just curious. I am often wrong but not always. Yes, I saw it had ended with no sale. It also says he had a deadbeat bidder. My guess was since he listed it as a real 442, the buyer realized that and backed out. But this guy certainly did not appreciate my asking about it.
His tone leads me to believe he is either steamed because HE got took when he bought it or he is a shyster trying to pass it off on an unsuspecting buyer. Either way, it's not available to ME. LOL
We should start an email campaign. HeeHee
I am watching to see if he relists it with the same description. If he does, I may just report it.

I think the P R N D L from the old column shift is a dead giveaway.

Maybe a RARE Canadian 442 option, dual shift indicators. And since you rarely use Granny gear anyway, why waste putting an additional letter on the dash.

I thought the "CS" emblems on the interior door panels were a dead giveaway.

But never mind all that -- why would anyone EVER chrome a brake booster?!?

Same thing happened on the Garage Squad doing what the guy thought was a 442 ! Oldsmobile emblem on the Hood nose piece should have been a giveaway unless they did not put a 442 there?

I saw that show. Those guys wouldn't know a correct 442 from a tube of toothpaste.

I truly loved the comment about how the trunk of a 442 would pop open and almost knock you out!! Hell my 70 CS does that. But they did do a nice job on the car and after all Its all in the eye of the owner as long as he does not try to sell it to a classicoldsmobile.com guy LOL

So basically he is inferring from a poor website that the 1 makes it a Canadian-built 4-4-2 when it's simply a Canadian-built Cutlass Supreme?

Yeah, and that's only if the car was equipped with a spoiler. It was an option.

Okay, so here's a question: Isn't there some funny thing with 4-4-2s from that era having Cutlass bodies reflected in the data plate?

But this has a Cutlass VIN too - do you mean Cutlass S versus Cutlass Supreme?

You are correct. V8 Cutlass S. The S and the 442 shared the same body out of Fisher. supremes had different moulding and interior.

"Dealer in st Louis. Motto exotic owner Scottie is more then likely purchasing car. We are 1000 apart.. Scott makes a living off cars. Sure hope he knows what he buying."

If true, let's see how this plays out.

That's what the seller told me, basically using irony to suggest that this dealer probably knows his stuff including the proper VINs.

Hmmm...so, a dealer is supposedly buying it from him? It is a good looking car but sure hope whomever buys it knows they are not getting what it is advertised as.

Not at all. As far as Fisher Body was concerned, there was NO difference between the 68-69 Cutlass body and the 442 body. Same interior, same sheet metal. Fisher Body was a little slow with incorporating the model number changes because frankly, it was of no impact to them. Again, this is well documented in factory literature.

Yes, it was the first thing I discovered when I freaked out because the body number on the cowl tag of my '68 didn't "match" the VIN. I thought I'd bought a stolen car or something.
