71 W30 Auto Carb 4 speed in an A/T

To all those in the know, I have a 1971 W30

carb # is 7041253
1040

Am I correct that this correctly sits on a 1971 W30 4 speed drivetrain? If so, does this offer any benefit in terms of performance? Is it possible this might have come from the factory with this? body code build date is 03A

That is not a W30 number. It is for a A.T., M.T 442,and 350 with M.T.

That number was used on 442 with manual trans and 350 with manual trans. was also used on W30 with man trans. The other number 7041256 is considered to never have existed.

That cowl D/C coinsides with the D/C on the carb 1040 which would be the 2nd week of Feb.

Your car car being built the 1st week of March.

Curious about the 350 manual trans application for the 7041253. Is this documented?

Thanks,

Olds engine assembly manual for 1971 shows only one carb for manual transmission applications in a 4 BBL, that being the 7041253. There may have been a mid year change or supply chain issue as a friend had a 71 350 4 speed car with the 7041253 and it was original to the car. Others say only one carb was offered on a 350 regardless of transmission, that was the 7041250. The assembly manual confirms 7041253 was used with engine codes QB and QO.

Paul,
Do you know the build date on your friends 350 4 speed car? I agree with possible mid year changes. Olds seems to have had to rethink a few items on the 71's after start up.
Thanks for responding with detailed answer.

erw813,
Can you post a picture of carb numbers? I do not think Olds made a 7041258 carb in 71.
Could it be a 7040258? That is a carb from 1970 and it would fit with the 1040 date code. I interpret the date code as being built on the 104th(mid April) day of 1970. That seem very unlikely for a 71 carb.

I still have the original distributor from that car. We located the seized Motor in a field in Manitoba in 2002. Carb was gone but kept the dist. Date on dist is 0J9 which I read to be Sept 09 1970. The big Gm strike started a few eeks later, so I would say the Build date of thet car was Between Sept10 to Sept 26 1970.
