.. and if so at what price?
No engine or trans- owner says it was a 400 auto but he has a 68 350/350 to put in it. It is a real 442 (S package). It has a bench seat and column shift, fair to poor black interior, good glass, vinyl top (what's left of it), and other than motor and trans, its mostly complete. Cannot verify rear end (saw no posi tag) from any vantage point but looks stock judging by the rust. Quarters shot, fenders poor, doors look and work ok and it has the title. Can't see much else in its current location without dragging it out. He want's $1600 but appears negotiable.
Any rational input would be appreciated.

I see a shitton of parts there. Power windows, stainless, 68 only hood hinges etc...If the floors rockers dash trunk pan frame are solid its a great roller for that money. If its rotted its a parts car.
If you pass on it IM the info and location. Id buy it.

Pull out $1200 cash and see if he takes it. Maybe go up a hundred, then two, then walk away leaving your contact information. If you can get it a little cheaper then you can give it a real look over at home. You won't lose money if you part it out and hopefully it is save-able. Jmo.

To me, its a parts car. Not to diminish '68's but a bench seat column shift car tops out at high teens unless it's a W30. On the upside, matching #'s isn't as big a deal because the long stroke 400 isn't exactly loved.
Parts aren't as readily available for these as the 70-72. If you can do all (or most) of the work yourself & it's a car you always wanted you might work out close to even.
