68 442 wheels

O.K. wondering which wheels are correct for 68 442 convertible? The car I bought has the SS1's I believe. Has chrome outline with silver centers. Thanks.

Specifically, the 14X6 wheel we now know as the SSI was not to be offered for the '68 model year. However, the 14X6 super stock wheel that replaced it (now known as the SSII) had production problems and, in general, didn't become available until sometime in the January-April 1968 time frame. Early production cars that were ordered with the newly styled super stock wheel (SSII) were known to come with SSI wheels just as long as the car wasn't ordered with disc brakes (the earlier super stock wheel (SSI) doesn't work with disc brakes). So, if your car was produced (and this is just personal opinion) on or before March 1968, there is a good chance it could have come originally with SSI wheels.

The 14X6 wheel we now know as the SSII would be appropriate (again, my personal opinion) for a car produced starting in January 1968.

And, of course, there is the "R" code 14X6 steel wheel if the super stock wheel wasn't ordered. There are a number of wheel covers that were available with the steel wheel.

I've shown my '68 with two different sets of wheels - the SSI with red line tires and what came with it originally - the steel wheel with the N95 wire wheel covers and white stripe tires.

Wouldn't the poverty cap be the standard cover, with wire, full wheel cover, SSI & SSII optional?

Yes, the poverty cap on a steel wheel (painted color of car) would be the standard issue. Anything else would be optional.
