65 Trunk

Looking at what appears to be a really nice 65. Just received trunk photos and was wondering if there is anything I should be concerned about from these pics. I have no experience with these trunks and what they should look like if repaired/patched. It does look like someone used a lot of seam sealer?

So this car has had a recent repaint?
I don’t see anything immediately that appears to be off. These cars had very sloppy seam sealer.
I wouldn’t be concerned with anything that I see from these photos.
but I would definitely take that rubber mat out and only use it for shows. there’s already a small rust bubble forming.

Two things stand out to me on this car. The spot welds are factory spot welds and not rosette welds that you would see if the trunk pan had been replaced. Also, most aftermarket trunk pans for these cars are three piece, and I don't see any seams.

The trunk weather stripping needs to be attached better, too much of a gap

Thanks all for the responses, much appreciated! Don’t think this was a recent repaint, but not really sure at this point.

I like the color (Lucerne Mist), do you have other pictures of the car?

$75k????
I believe that would be the highest price ever paid for a 65.
I don’t care how original it is.
in nice shape these usually sell between 20 and 35K.

nsnarsk65cutlass, I believe this is the patch/filler you are referring to?

Rallye469, I agree on the high price. I have encountered this with two sellers who have owned the cars for years and put a lot of time, effort and money into them. I get that! The cars are very personal to them, which affects the list price, but even after presenting them with the market facts and possible issues with the cars they still hang on to their price!

Good eye!
Yep...that looks like it could be a patch. There should be a slight curve there at the front edge. Looks like they replaced it with a flat sheet.

And yes, folks definitely have an elevated sense of their cars worth. Especially if they've been paying top dollar for other people to work on their car.
It gets pricey quick, but that doesn't necessarily translate to a huge sale.
Pretty car though.
