‘65 442 Center Console - Which is correct?

Looking to clean up the center console on our ‘65 442 convertible with Jetaway transmission. I have seen pictures with the space between the ribs painted black and also with it just being chrome.

Which is the correct one?

Picture for an example.

For the model year 65 they were painted argent silver, or Krylon dull aluminum 1403, or at least that’s what I used.

Owners painted them black in '65 because it looks better, myself included.

Black in the middle is definitely correct for '64. That's how mine came. Looks best too.
