455 in a '65 Sport Coupe??

We've a Dk. Blue '65 Sport Coupe that the person who took the engine for rebuild vanished! We also suspect he got the 4-speed and linkage w/442 on it!
This one looks new with the tri-tone blue interior!
We have a 455 with a stick crank, and can get another 4-speed and linkage, but the owner wonders if that'll affect the value??
We have another '65 400, but it's an auto. motor, without the crank bushing.
I've been told there's an 'adapter' available that's just hammered in the back of the crank, but that doesn't sound too reliable to me - anyone use it???
Opinions of the value and reliability would be appreciated!!

The outside demensions of the 2 engines 400 vs 455 are the same. so it should fit with no problems. The value will go down without the orginal moter. How much depends on the buyer and other varibles. If it was an orginal 442 thats the most damaging if a optioned out sport coupe not as much. Have no idea about the adapter, someone else will I'm sure.

Supercars Unltd. offers a pilot bearing that goes into the auto trans recess; I have one that I didn't use if you want to make an offer on it. The best would be to remove the crank and have it bored in a big lathe. That costs about $100 to do. The adapter ball bearing works, but with any stick car be sure to use a dial indicator to get the bellhousing centered within a couple thousandths. Lakewood makes offset dowels to do this-see summit or jegs.
