442s only from Lansing?
Were 442's only produced in Lansing or were they built at other plants as well? I'm looking at a '72 442 with 350/TH400, W-25, Hurst DG shifter, etc. The VIN says it was built at the Framingham plant but I thought all 442s came from Lansing.
Thx!

Remember that, in '72, the 442 had gone back to being just an option package on the Cutlass. I don't know for sure, but I'd imagine '72 442s could have been built at whatever plants Cutlasses were built.

442's
Harv, I think I was remembering that W-30's were built in Lansing. And good point Jaunty, I suppose the 442 option would have been added to any cutlass from any plant. Thanks for the quick responses. I really love the ClassicOlds site. Everyone is so helpful and civil, even when they disagree.

Glad to be of help.
Getting back to '72, W30 doesn't apply as there was no W30 option that year. Things had changed significantly in only a couple of years. The highest horsepower you could get in a '72 Cutlass was 300 with the 455 engine, Option L77. That was a significant come-down from the 370 hp W30 of only two years earlier.

You are correct that the 1972 W-30 engine was not rated at the same 370 HP gross as in 1970, but neither was the 71 W-30, due to emissions and camshaft changes.
