1985-87 442 Wheel ????

Are The 85-87 442 Factory Wheels Different From The Rallys That Were Chrome But Had Black Painted Centers Instead Of Gold?

If you're talking about the styled Olds wheels used on Cutlii, the stampings are all the same. Some are chrome, some not. Some use stainless trim around each of the five openings, some are fully chromed. There are a number of different wheel centers - these just snap in. The painted rims use a chrome trim ring, the chrom rims do not. Note that these rims come in 14x6, 14x7, and 15x7. The 74-earlier versions use a different bolt-in center cap.

Yes, the black centered SSIII GM chrome rims are 14x6". However, there are aftermarket 15" rims that have black centers. Chances are though when you see a chrome and black centered rim it will be 14x6" instead of 15x7"

The only stock 15" chrome SSIII's from the factory were the 83/84 H/O which had an argent (silver) centers with a red pinstripe and were clear coated.
The 85-87 442's were gold in the center with a gold pinstripe and were not clear coated.

rims

Hi. Not sure of the specs, but a friend used to have a 80-something delta 88 with the same 15" rims I had on my 73. They were painted, but otherwise the same as the chrome. I remember an afternoon where curiosity got the two of us, and we swaped the rings, (which were slightly different in style) and caps. The Delta had a much larger center cap style that actually covered the wheel nuts. The Delta's always had 15", and often coppied the "Olds" style wheel used on the Cutty's (chrome, painted, Etc.) Bottom line is, if you can get them complete for a good $, grab them. They will work. Can you post a pic. That always helps best. Let us know what you decide. Jim.

Hey It's definitly a Cutty wheel. And you say these are 15x7? If these came off a Delta, that Delta didn't leave the factory with these. Looks good though.

Actually, the SSIII wheels WERE available on some of the 77-84 Delta 88s - though the chrome versions were not. The 77 Indy pace car replicas, for example, used painted SSIIIs with the "starfish" center caps. Note that the 77-90 B-body cars used two different wheel bolt circles. Most sedans got the 5 x 4.75" bolt pattern common to the A/G body cars. The wagons, taxis, police cars, and heavy cars like the Ninety Eight and big Caddies got the 5 x 5" bolt circle.

ALL SSII/SSIII wheels are 5 x 4.75" bolt circle.
