1972 442 hood QUESTIONS

I have tryed searching and quite get the answer i am looking for. I have a 1972 cutlas. I have started a tribute type car of a 442. I bought a new hood (the one with louvers in the midlle) I also want to put the black outlines (not full stripes) on the hood that came in a package w29 think? My question is: on a 1972 What should the proper louver have. all chrome black, black with the to "fins" showing" or the body color. I would like it to be as correct as i can , my car is not a show car but would like to do it correct.

Thanks in advance

Beau

I think the correct presentation is body color based on what I see in the sales material but I'm not convinced that is what looks the best. I've had a few 71-72 Cutlass and still not sure what looks best. To simulate a true louver, I would think the back side should be black and the top side should be either chrome or body color. guess it depends on if you want to be resticted by what is technically/factory correct or if you want to blaze your own trail...IMO, it's your car, do what you want to make it your own but keep any parts that you replace in the process so the car can easily be restored back to original.

The reseach I have done on a '72 W29 is that the ridges should be chrome and the back and inside of the louvers should be black. That is what is stated in the promotionliterature for 1972.

Reproducing the chrome and black combo is difficult. All Chrome doesn't look correct so i had the complete lover painted satin black.

Came out looking pretty good. If I can find a resonably good set of louvers I will use a company in FL to rechrome tham and then paint the louver part satin Black.

The company that rechromed mine actually sanded down the ridges till it was impossible to paint them correct and did a terrible job chroming the louvers. So my choice all black was the only choice I had, but it worked out OK!
