1969 w30 oai
A friend of mine is finishing a ground up, frame off resto of a 1969 442 W30 4 spd. convertible. He was wondering what the dimensions of the scoops (under the bumper) were. His are about 2" high and 13.5" wide.
He said he bought some fittings that go around the edge of the scoops and they are supposed to be authentic but they are too small. His scoops look original, but seem too big for these frames.
Does anyone know the actual dimensions of these scoops? Any help is appreciated.

This will take a while...maybe the weekend
...I have photos but need the kid to help me post the pics
If he was trying to put bright trim on his scoops, then maybe his aren't NOS...mine are complete and ready to rock and roll...

I'm not sure if they are NOS or not. I haven't seen them. I'll talk with him today and find out. I don't know if it was bright trim or a frame of some sort that goes around them. Perhaps this "frame" connects to the bumper to keep them in place? I'll find out and let you know.
One thing you can be sure of, he's a stand up guy and if he says it's so, you can bet your reputation on that. A more honest person, you'd be hard pressed to find. I'll get back to you.
It's a 1970 W30 automatic Convertible. Colour is maroon (don't know the actual name) with white stripes and white top. Has SS1 wheels if I remember correctly. He has so many it's hard to keep track. Anyway the '70 is the next one in line for a full ground up frame off.
I spoke with him. His scoops are original not NOS. Apparently they are made out of fiberglass. He said that he could trade you and add some money or just buy them out right if you wish. Are you interested?
I know some of the repo scoops were fiberglass, but the originals were not. I have my original scoops, one of which has a hole worn through it from the second owners (I'm # 3) steep driveway entrance, it's definately not fiberglass.
the originals are made of polypropylene plastic..same stuff as interior kick panels, bucket seatbaks, even the plastic wheelwells.
One repro version is made of polypropylene but for some reason they used a textured plastic so the finish doesn't look quite the same. The other repro is made of ABS and those are sold by The Parts Place.
Here's a couple pics of a pair of original '69 OAI scoops I restored for someone last year:

Those are two stainless steel edge pieces the factory put on the scoops...similar to those factory door edge guards.
They get tweaked fairly easily...these were bent in places, tweaked outwards/forwards on 2 or 3 of them and chipped up, etc.
Here's are "before" shots of one of the stainless pieces after I removed it:
