1969 radiator
1969 radiator
Hello. I have a 1969 Olds 442 without A/C. It is all stock. The original radiator is leaking and I'm looking for a new radiator. I'm trying to decide between a 3 or 4 core radiator. Also, should I purchase aluminum or brass? I reached out to the vendor "Be Cool" as I heard they were reputable. They informed the 3 and 4 core radiators were old technology and they sale a radiator that has two 1 inch cores and will cool better than a 3 or 4 core. Looking for any assistance before I make a decision. Any assistance/opinions is greatly appreciated.
I have a be cool radiator in my 69, it works great. Even with the A/C on at low speeds in traffic it rarely gets above 200ish.
Unless originality is important, the aluminum works better. While copper/brass is a better thermal conductor, aluminum is stronger. That means you can use 2 rows of much larger tubes, which will have more surface area than 4 rows of smaller tubes.
When was the last time you saw a late model car on the side of the road overheated? Unless its leaking or not properly maintained, modern cars with aluminum radiators just don’t overheat.
