Has anyone put Seafoam down a 4 bbl carburetor on a V8 engine and had positive results.

I did it on my '71 several years ago. I took the recommendation of others on the forum and did not do this in my driveway - I went out of the city limits and did it near a farm field, and boy am I ever glad I did! The smoke that came out the exhaust was phenomenal! After all that I can't say if the engine really ran any differently, though.

Solvents like that can be very effective in cleaning combustion chambers, pistons and rings; BUT, remember they are liquids and will not compress. If too much liquid of any type is introduced at one time the engine can hydro-lock bending rods etc. Techron in the gasoline would be safer and clean the fuel system too. Unless there is a problem that you hope Seafoam would correct it's probably better not to use any.

X2 on don't do it in your driveway, if the engine is. really gummed up the smoke will be something to write home about and toxic to inhale.

My preference is regular oil changes with spec oil and to always use quality TopTier gasoline coupled with full application of the go pedal once the engine is warm.

Good luck!!!

Brings back a memory of when I was growing up. I lived in a very small town with a town square. We would pour trans fluid into the back barrels of our four barrels, drive slowly to the square then floor it. All of the oil would burn at once and smoke like hell.

Funny Ed.

my buddy in high school had a Catalina. He had a can of trans fluid under the hood and a vacuum line and switch in the car and corresponding line to the carb. At will he would flip the switch and send out the smoke James Bond style. One day a statie saw his car smoking and pulled him over. The cop made him rev up his engine several times to try and get it smoking, he eventually let him go w a warning.

I am a believer in Sea Foam. It will actually clean passages in carbs that are clogged from bad gas-saved me from a few carb rebulds on snowmobile and other small engines. But I can't see any reason to pour down a carb throat, to feed it into a carb thru the gas inlet- if it is getting gummed up- yeah.
