Hello, I live in Guatemala City, Central America, I own a 1966 442 with 400 engine, Im restoring the car and I want to overhaul the engine and add a little of performance. I want a street car, I need any advice?

I have 2 problems

1. What cam I can order for my engine? and how do I know if my bank angle is 39 or 45 degrees

2. I took the engine to the workshop and they tell my my block has to be bored 0.030 What you think about it?

Your cam angle is 39 degrees. The stock cam if not worn is a good cam for street. .030 overbore is standard procedure if the cylinders are worn or not true. You wil need new pistons with this....forged pistons are recommended.

Pistons of any size are difficult to find for the 65-67 400 motors due to the unique combination of bore and compression height (the distance from the piston pin to the top of the piston). One common swap is to use commonly available Olds 350 standard bore pistons. These have the same compression height as the early 400 motors and the 4.057" bore of the 350 is effectively a 0.057" overbore on the stock 4.000" bore of the 400.

Joe, my machine shop was telling me there's a 360 dodge piston that will work for an Olds 400 engine if you open up the wrist pin hole, but I don't remember if he was talking about the 65-67 or 68-69 engines. Have you heard of anything like that? John

I find a page www.kanter.com, they have a compleete overhaul kit for the car, you think is a good source for the parts? I have to look if they have 0.030 pistons

another thing, Edelbrock recomendme to use RPM manifold the EDL-2151 with the edelbrock carburetor EDL-1407 750 cfm, you think is a good choice?

For engine parts there is also EGGE Machine. I dont know the quality of these parts or Kanter parts. I suppose too you could have custom pistons made for your engine if you desired. Arias used to custom make pistons but I dont know if they still do. I am not familiar with the Edelbrock carb and intake you have in mind. Everyone has their own opinions on the best setup. Aluminum manifolds save lots of weight but need a paper type gasket instead of the factory type metal intake gasket.

Have the shop check it before they order the cam.

I've used Egge Machine on more than one occasion. The pistons were made in house, and were OEM quality or better.

Kanter Products has a reputation for selling the same quality, at a higher price. Both sell 020", .030", .040", and .060" over. I suspect that the pistons Kanter sells are manufactured by Egge.

Your shop said .030" because, their suppliers only stock .030" and .060" for Olds. They will know if the bores will clean up at .020", and can advise you further.

For the street, the Quadrajet is a better all around carb. You can use it on that manifold.
