Tire size input / comments

I have been looking at new tires for my 1982 Delta 88 , 4 door . The tire size i have on the car now are 215 75 15 . This size on my car to me look a bit small . So do not want smaller tires than that . And limited tire selection in the 215 75 15 size . Or should i stay with this size. Have been thinking about bigger . Looks like 225 70 15 is not really bigger . So thinking about 225 75 15 or 235 70 15 any comments on those sizes for my car , advantages or disadvantages . Is 235 75 15 to large for my car ? or look to large ? Thanks for any input .

Thanks Joe , the 235 70 15 opens up a lot more selection .

I just put a set of 235/70 15's on my 75 Hurst Olds. They are 28 inches in diameter. They filled the wheel wells a lot better than the 245/60 15's that were on the car when I bought it.

Considerable upsize from what your Delta was born with, will feel better ride wise and look great.

But if pep is a concern going excessively larger/heavier will slow you down.... And if all around, put that much more wear and tear on front end components ...

(Factory correct 205 75 15) // 215 75 15 // 235 70 15

weight ---------- 20 lbs // 22 lbs // 24 lbs

diameter -------- 27 inches // 27.6 inches // 27.9 inches

tread width ---- 5.6 inches // 5.7 inches // 6.7 inches

All 3 tires compared are HANKOOK KINERGY ST
Standard Touring All-Season.

Phil interesting and thanks for the above info . For me pep is not a concern / my big 4 door is for road trips . Seems like most go wider , even if not more out side diameter . Wider still more weight per tire .

Glenn interesting that you went from 245 60 15 to 235 70 15 . I do not want a smaller diameter so i keep checking the Tire Size Calculator web page .

The 245/60's were on the car when I bought it a couple years ago. They are 26.1" in diameter. They really distracted from the car. The car came with HR70-15's on it originally and they were 27.9" in diameter. The 235/70-15's are 28" in diameter. They fill the wheel well nicely. I checked my speedometer against my GPS and it is right on the money. While I was doing the tire change, I had the wheels sandblasted on repainted them. What a difference the tires and repainted wheels made on the car. I also used Gold Line tires to go with the gold trim on the car. Very happy.

Glenn thanks for the info , not sure if the size of wheel wells on your car would be the same as mine , but picture of the 235 70 15 tires to see how they fill the wheel wells , please .

My wheels are 15x7 but a different bolt pattern than your Delta although that doesn't matter. Below is a link to a thread that has before and after pictures of my wheels. Hope this helps.

Actually, the OP's 1982 D88 has the same 5 x 4.75" bolt pattern as do the A-body cars.

I believe I have read that on here before but failed to remember it. Age is a terrible thing.

Memory is the second thing to go, and I can't remember the first...

I have had 235/75-15s on my 1985 Delta 88 with no issues, but they look too tall. I've replaced them with 235/70-15s and I think it looks better.
