15x7 vs 15x8

I picked a set of the new firestone FR 60 tires. I was going to run a set of Pontiac-honeycomb wheels with them on a olds. Now kicking around another option. 15x8 on a. A body olds all four corners with this tire . What’s the Opinion on why a 8 vs a 7 inch wheel I do have 15x7 ssll that I could clean up paint yellow with snap centers

Those poncho wheels look real nice. I don’t think x8 or x7 will make much difference assuming a same offset.
i run 255-60-15s all around on ss2s w very minor rub on the fr wheels at full turn when backing out of the driveway.

Tire Rack shows those are very close to the 235-60-15 size. Back in the 80s I ran 235-60-15s on 15x7 wheels up front and 255-60-15s in back and both of those sizes were fine, and since then I have used 245-60-15s on 15x7 wheels all around and they fit and look fine as well, so I would say you do not NEED the 8" wide wheel, but if you want a slightly different look the 8" would work fine.

I run 15x8 Torq Thrusts all around on 245-60-R15 rubber on my '72 Cutlass - also have 1" aluminum spacers on the rear drums, in effect creating a 9" width in back

No rubbing or other issues

anytime - no fitment issues front or rear with this combo - you can fit bigger rubber on the 8's but I chose not to stagger in the back so I could rotate everything around and only have to deal with 1 size spare.

Thanks Retro - was originally a code 57 Baroque Gold body but a prior owner did a body-off resto back in the late 90's and painted it this current red. Still some gold on the inside of the doors but otherwise red inside/out now.

I would think an FR60-15 will look great on a 8". As Fun71 said the specs are very similar to a 235 60 15. Which is what I have on the rear of my 69 mounted on 15X8s. Cooper Cobras, they look good, ride well, are relatively lightweight, and warm up nicely. BF Goodrich radial T/As look even better because the tread width is wider. FR60s are an even wider tread width. 235 60 15s are good up to an 8.5" rim width. Which I would do in a heartbeat if I didn't want to keep weight down. Wide-ovals are a little different tire but your good.

FR60s are max 8" rim width recommended, so essentially 8 is perfect. Least sidewall flex paired with fuller appearance. With the right backspace your golden.

I am a fan of the staggered look. Fronts are 15 x 7 with Firestone 205 70 15s, rear, 15 x 8 with Cooper Cobra 235 60 15s.

Front tires are the narrowest all season close to stock spec, height, etc. I could easily find that weigh only 19 lbs. ( mixed brands intentionally)

I prefer less sidewall bulge appearance, so maxed out tire recommended rim width on front and almost on back. ( keen eyed members, yes I removed taillight lens chrome, so that it would better blend with non supreme taillight lens replacement on drivers side )

Yes the fronts are slighter taller 26.3 to the rears 26.1 ( I am not a fan but weight savings, etc. Car looks better with previous 245 60 15s and current fronts )

P.S. firefrost gold, I think your FR60s will look more like 70sgeek's wheels bulge wise, because Wide Ovals tend to favor that look. He and I share tread width but his tires are almost 1/2 inch wider in section width. ( sidewall bulge)
