Mirror location preference

My 55' Olds 98 has no outside mirrors, I bought a period correct mirror to put on the driver side, for those of you with fender mounted mirrors, do you like it there or would you rather have it on the door? I Like the way they look with fender mounted mirrors, just curious of the functionality.

On bumpy roads, things at the rear can become a blur when fender mounted. I think all factory mirrors were door mounted, whereas fender mounts were a dealer mounted after market. If you go door mounts, make sure you can see out the right-hand passenger side before you drill any holes, otherwise the wind wing obstructs your view...Tedd

The closer the mirror is to you, the larger the image and field-of-view.

That's why the factory chose door-mount.

What Tedd said about mounting the mirror on the right side. Been there and did that wrong.

Thanks for the input everyone, looks like I'll have myself a mirror on the door in the near future.

I replaced my right-hand mirror (glass only) with a curved mirror glass like what truck have to eliminate blind spots, as I found I had many, especially when the top was up. You might give it a thought, cheap insurance, and piece of mind....Tedd
