Ebay fuel sender

Bought this off ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...%3DI%26otn%3D1

Looks good and the shipping was reasonable. It also included the fuel sock, gasket and float so I thought it was a good deal.
Turns out the tube is bent different from my original and is way too short.

Nothing I do on this car is easy!
I'm in the process of removing my old tube and swapping it to the new unit.
Off course while tacking the tube in with a mig , I blew thru the metal and now have a hole in it....more work!

I understand why some people own Chev's...you can walk into a Walmart and get the right parts off the shelf.

parts

Thats half the fun of buying stuff , I've got a bunch of stuff I have purchased on ebay, from Fusick, OPG, Year One, Summit, local swap meets................ over the years sitting on a shelf that either did not fit or I changed my mind or it was a piece of crap, wrong part etc... Sometimes it cost's more to send it back than to throw it in the corner, but if you can make it work, great. You know I was thinking that maybe those dudes from American Pickers will stop by and buy all my valuable leftover junk.

I've been waiting for the right moment to buy a sending unit for mine - found this place a while back:

Classic Auto Parts

Wonder if they're any better than what you got...

The picture for the 53-56 on that page is exactly the same as my unit.
It looks really good. Seems to be of good quality but the tube is way different then my stock unit. I could have bent another line and flared the ends but that's just one more potential fuel leak!

I was going to buy from Fusick, but the shipping to my part of Canada is pretty high. I purchased a power steering hose from them. The hose was $60 and the shipping brought the total up over $100.

I also asked Fusick about the fuel sender sock filter and they don't have them. The unit I bought had one with it.

argghhh!!
Can you believe I put it back together and not only does the sender read from 6-36 ohms instead of 0-30 (causing the fuel gauge to be wrong) it also had a gas leak.
Can you believe gas was leaking out of the post that the sender wire hooks to?
I ended up covering it in JB weld to stop the leak.

Just a comment on shipping...When dealing with Fusick, ask them to mail it to you...They will no problem...

You've all convinced me - just ordered mine from Fusick. $15 more, but it sounds like it'll be worth it in lesser aggravation.
