Adaptability of 1956 parts on 1955 Oldsmobile 88

Hello, new to this word. I recently acquire a 1955 Super 88, four door Oldsmobile, that is essentially the frame (no axles) and body. I have the ability to access a 1956, 2 door hardtop Oldsmobile and was curious if a majority of the components would work on the 1955. Such as axles, control arms, springs, steering wheel, motor mounts, etc. I would imagine the front bench seat to be the same as well? Thank you for you assistance.

We at classicoldsmobile.com have access to free downloads of Oldsmobile parts catalogs.
These books were the books used by dealership parts people when ordering parts.
They cover about 10 years back from the publication date.
You look at the illustrations and find a similar part to the one you need.
Note the group number assigned to that part.
Then go to that group in the parts list.
The parts will be listed by year, model, and other variations.
As long as a part is listed for both 55 and 56 it will fit.
The 1963 books cover back to 1955. And are available on these threads.

1963 Oldsmobile Parts and Accessories Catalog (Chassis Edition) - ClassicOldsmobile.com
and
1963 Oldsmobile Parts and Accessories Catalog (Body Edition) - ClassicOldsmobile.com

I think that you will find many of the '56 parts will fit a '55.
With the parts book, you will know which ones.

As Charlie said, those two books will get you all the information you need. Sometimes it's hard to figure out if the part you're looking for is "Chassis" or "Body", so you need both books. Each book has an index in the front that will lead you to the group number and the page for whatever you're looking for.

While the seat will physically fit, It would seem a little odd that a seat from a two door, with folding backrests would be in a four door.

Good advice above, doubtful if any glass will swap across bodies, A pillar forward should be about the same on front in parts, most sheet metal, fenders hood, chrome will be different. As mentioned above, A Hollander would be your best bet for everything...Tedd

The steering wheel itself will swap, but the 56 has a steering box rag joint that 55 does not... Tedd
